Revolt #7 – Saturday 29th November

September 16, 2014 1 comment

We’re back – and what a line-up we have for you! As usual, we’ll have a mix of incredible bands, DJs, spoken-word acts and stalls at The Coal Vaults in Coventry, including…

The Tuts

THE TUTS –  a sassy all-girl punk band with pop sensibilities, hailing from West London. Last year they were hand-picked to tour with Kate Nash, this summer they played Glastonbury’s Left Field stage, and this November…they’re coming to Coventry!

DIRTYriot grrrl meets noise rock. This Gloucestershire trio like horrible riffs, Divine, glitter and phallic imagery.

NOT RIGHT – basically the Revolt house band at this point, angry/earnest/joyous. Expect lipstick-smeared bodies and overexcited feminist sloganeering.

THE PASSÉISTS – exciting new local group featuring members of Revolt alumni Bad Vibes and My Therapist Says Hot Damn.

ELEANOR LISNEY – reading poetry composed in varied stages of her life, mostly from the perspective of a disabled woman in exile, from memories culled from childhood in Malaysia or as young expat wife living in France.

SOPHIE HADLUM – at our last event, Sophie delighted us with strange tales of the forest and sarcastic feminist puppetry. So we invited her back…

SOPHIE SPARHAM – the second Sophie on our line-up is a sci-fi/ fantasy writer, poet and has a show on TotalRock Radio. Her poetry aims to inspire and comment on the world around us.

DJ J355 – another welcome return to Revolt, spinning grrrl tunes between bands.

ALIEN SHE – spinning female-fronted indie and alternative rock to get you dancing after the bands!

Plus, as always, we’ll have the usual range of zine stalls, the chance for you to help make the next Revolt zine, and the Revolt Feminist Library will be present.

Tickets will cost £5 on the door or £3 in advance, with advance tickets available soon.

Revolt #5 – first announcement

December 8, 2013 Leave a comment

Revolt will return to the Coal Vaults (formerly Taylor John’s House) in Coventry on Saturday 22nd February 2014. We have a shiny Facebook event page for it and everything.

The line-up is shaping up very nicely…here’s what we have confirmed so far!

We were dead excited when (hooker) contacted us in the summer about playing Revolt. They’re an amazing live act with a decade’s worth of experience – during that time they’ve played alongside the likes of Le Tigre, The Slits and Interpol, and toured with Gossip and Katastrophy Wife. If you like dancing to urgent post-punk sounds, you’re going to have a great time during their set.

Mean Bikini
A relatively youthful five-piece of international origin, Mean Bikini have spent the past couple of years gigging across London wielding a collection of rough, fuzzy songs with a sunny disposition.

Robot Unicorn IINot Right
Local band with genuinely furious tunes delivered in good humour. Recently described as “angry in the right kind of way” by Ladiyfest Sheffield.

We’re also delighted to announce that we’ll also have a range of punky tunes from the decks courtesy of DJ Ruby Please, and a variety of feminist music and merch available from Robot Unicorn Records.

See you there!

It’s available for FREE to stream and download. The download file comes with information about every band and printable CD sleeves.

First line-up announcement for Revolt #2

February 2, 2013 2 comments

We’re already feeling pretty hyped for the next Revolt, which will take place on Saturday 16th March. There are a few awesome performers still to confirm, but we figured it was time you heard about some of the acts already on board…

Husbands N Knives
Four piece riot grrrl punk band from Torquay.
“Inspired by early 90s female fronted acts like The Gits, Bikini Kill, L7 and Hole, they have been spreading their very own brand of energetic punk across the South West, playing at various venues and festivals including Brighton’s Clit Rock {a Charity Night against FGM} , The Plymouth Punx Picnic, Nottingham’s Hell Hath No Fury supporting Vice Squad and Torquay’s OXJAM which they headlined in 2012.

Husbands N Knives

Army of Skanks

Coventry’s very own punk rock warrior women.
“Proper punk, with attitude and fun!”

Not Right

Local three-piece punk band.
“Short songs, queer feminist rage, learning to play our instruments as we go along”

The Sensational Sally Outen

Stand Up Comedienne, Trans Activist, Actor and Part-Time Evil Scientist.
“So, this is “comedy as activism”, then? Well, almost. With her trademark geekery, bizarre flights of reality, and the odd dinosaur impression, Sally provides a case for why she may – possibly – be an acceptable human being after all.”

Megan Elizabeth Dodds
Spoken-word performance from a founding member of the new Riot Grrrl Birmingham collective.

Ditch Your Boyfriend

DJs from Coventry’s feminist alternative club night.

As before, we’ll also have zine stalls, and space for people to bring their own zines! Watch this space for further announcements.
