Reflecting on the November event

November 13, 2013 Leave a comment

We had another wonderful event at the beginning of November – thanks to My Therapist Says Hot Damn, Jesus and his Judgemental Father, Bad Vibes, A Year From Now, Kat Gupta and Revolting Words open mic for their amazing sets, Megan and Tom for their wonderful patch/zine stall, and everyone who came to party in a positive way with us.

We’ve had a bit of feedback from both attendees and from materials left at the zine table which we’ll totally be taking on board for future events. It really matters to us that Revolt is accessible and safe for all. If you have any concerns about anything that happens at our events, please do let us know.

The next Revolt will take place on SATURDAY 22ND FEBRUARY, once again in the Coal Vaults.

We’ll have a DJ set from the incredible Ruby Please, a stall hosted by Robot Unicorn Records, plus Megan and Tom will be back with their punk patch/zine stall. Plus, some really fantastic bands and spoken word – more on that soon.

At this event we’ll be distributing the first ever Revolt Zine – pieced together from some of the fantastic/fun/powerful pieces of art, doodling and prose people contributed on 2nd November.

We’ll see you in February!

Revolt zine and CD giveaway

October 28, 2013 Leave a comment

Revolt is almost upon us!  Yet we have a couple more exciting things still to announce…

Firstly, we’ll be making the first ever Revolt Zine…and we’re inviting you to be a part of it.

We’ll have a table near the bar with a whole load of paper, pens, pencils, sharpies, glue, scissors and the like. We’re inviting you to contribute anything that you fancy contributing – perhaps a drawing, a poem, a story, an essay, a review of one of the acts. Maybe you’d like to bring in a magazine, cut it up, and comment on it. It’s really up to you.

We’ll be assembling the zine from pages made on the night, and distributing it at our next event, due to take place in early 2014.

Secondly, we’ll be giving away a free compilation CD to the first 30 people through the door. This compilation will feature most of the bands that have played Revolt during the past year, so trust us when we say that it’s utterly awesome and you should get there early to pick up a copy.

And as if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, we’ll leave you with this video…

We’ll see you on Saturday!

Line-up announcement: Lee Richez, Punktuation, Pint Dreams, Fear and Slothing

We have some bad news and good news!

To get the bad news out of the way…unfortunately First Class Tramp have had to drop out of our upcoming event at Taylor John’s House on Saturday 16th March. Hopefully we’ll be able to have them play another time!

However, the good news is that we have four new acts to announce!

Filling the fifth band slot will be grunge group Fear and Slothing, who will be playing their very first gig at Revolt. We hope you’ll support them and their rather fantastic music.

You’ll find Pint Dreams at the bar near the start of the night, bringing traditional storytelling interweaved with live music and puppetry.

We’ve also confirmed a short poetry set from Punktuation, a.k.a James Hickingbottom of local punks Parataxis – James is a lovely fellow with interesting perspectives on things, so expect a thoughtful performance.

Finally, our organisational partners in DYB have booked Lee Richez! Lee has played DJ sets across the Midlands for many years and we’re delighted that she’ll be performing at Revolt.

Remember, you can buy tickets for Revolt here.

We’ll also have space for people to bring and share zines – so if you want to bring along a zine you’ve made, please do!

Spoken-word acts

Catherine Elms

With just one week to go, we’re excited to make our final major announcement of acts!

Prue Chamberlain will be opening the proceedings with a performance of some of her poetry. Prue performs poems about urban feminist experience, and her blog can be viewed here.

Catherine Elms creates the zine Here. In My Head. She will be running a zine stall and reading “fuck shyness” from Here. In My Head #7. You can visit her website here.

Local poet Bethany Norris will perform some of her pieces towards the end of the night, just before Atta Girl DJs take control of the dancefloor.

Don’t forget, you can save money by buying your tickets in advance!
